Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply my decals?

Small Decals

  1. Ensure surface is clean and dry. Minimise contact with the area the decal will be placed as the residue from skin oils may prevent the decal from adhering to the surface.
  2. Rub the decal with a firm piece of plastic (credit cards are good for this) to ensure decal is on the transfer tape.
  3. Flip decal over and remove backing sheet at an sharp angle – if any part of the decal remians on the backing sheet, gently lay it back down and firmly rub so it clings to the application tape.
  4. Position decal on desired surface, press lightly in the middle and then working from the middle out, gently press into place to ensure no bubbles.
  5. Rub over the application tape to ensure the decal is transfered to your surface.
  6. Gently peel up application tape on an angle, leaving the decal behind.
  7. Allow the adhesive time to cure (3-5 days) prior to using product, especially for products that will be washed like mugs, glassware and drink bottles.

Large Decals

  1. Ensure surface is clean and dry. Minimise contact with the area the decal will be placed as the residue from skin oils may prevent the decal from adhering to the surface.
  2. Rub the decal with a firm piece of plastic (credit cards are good for this) to ensure decal is on the transfer tape.
  3. Position decal in desired position.
  4. Apply hinge tape (provided with large decals) to maintain position of decal.
  5. Flip decal over leaving hinge piece attached to your sign, then remove backing sheet at an sharp angle – if any part of the decal remains on the backing sheet, gently lay it back down and firmly rub so it clings to the application tape.
  6. Gently flip the decal application tape back slowly and smooth decal into position gently rubbing back and forth as you got to minimise the chance of air bubbles under your decal.
  7. Once entire decal has been positioned, rub over the application tape to ensure the decal is transferred to your surface.
  8. Gently peel up application tape on an angle, leaving the decal behind.

Decal vs sticker. What are the differences?

What is the difference between a sticker and a decal?

Stickers are printed in full colour on white adhesive vinyl.
Decals are contour cut from coloured vinyl and have no background to them.

Are they permanent or removable?

Please ensure you read the listing carefully and choose the correct product. Vinyl adhesive is permanent

Wall Decals – Removable and Reusable:

Our printed wall decals are printed on a matt fabric which has a removable and reusable adhesive. This means that you change the position of the decal if you haven’t quite put it in the right place. It is also great for renters as you can add an element of your self, knowing that they won’t remove or damage the paint.

Car Decals:

Car decals are cut from Avery Super Cast vinyl. This is a permanent outdoor vinyl rated for 5-10 years for the colour fastness and adhesive durability. Super Cast vinyl is designed to conform to complex curves and can be shaped around the contours of your car.

Signage Decals:

These are made with permanent adhesive vinyl, designed for flat or slightly curved surfaces.

Is vinyl food safe?

No, vinyl is not food safe and should not be applied to surfaces on which food is served.

Artwork requirements:

hat do I need to provide for my project to be printed?

Posters:
Please provide a PDF made to the correct final print size + a 5mm bleed, at 300dpi. Please ensure that any imagery you use to create the poster is also of a high enough resolution when scaled to the size you need.

Stickers:
Please ensure your file is at least 300dpi for the size stickers you are wanting. .ai, .eps, .jpeg .png can all be provided. I will then place your file into the Illustrator template I have created for your chosen product and export the print/cut file required by my RIP software.

How do I upload more than one item?

Simply have your designer create one PDF file with each of the different prints you need. A PDF File can contain pages with different page sizes. Alternately, please email me at orders@emmerlee.com.au with your files and instructions of which file is to be printed at which size, paper type etc.

I can create the file my self, what are the design specifications?

Great! The preferred file type is an .ai, .eps or .pdf file. Please ensure .ai or .eps files are saved as Legacy format Illustrator CS6, so I can open them to apply the cut line required by the RIP software. Please create a layer as the top layer with your cut line on it, I will then select everything on this layer and apply the required cut line features. PDF files must remain as editable files with all layers available.

Vinyl cut decals

Generally, I will create these for you based on your design selections from my various options, however if you can create vector artwork, you just need to send it to me as above as a PDF, .ai or .eps Legacy format CS6 or a .svg that I can open in Illustrator. All text needs to be converted to outlines and script to be united (referred to as merged or welded in other programs). If text hasn’t been outlined and I don’t have the font you have used to create your design, then my system will substitute a default font which is likely to be very different to your intended design.

More questions?

I’ve seen a very similar design sold by someone else?

Yes, I am a designer and whilst I love painting, doodling and drawing for the occasional mindfulness moments they bring, there is no way I’d be able to provide the variety of design elements, illustrations, backgrounds and effects that I am able to offer should I create all of these items myself. I support other illustrators, designers and creatives by purchasing their illustrations with commercial licenses so that I am able to create a large variety of designs.

I love this design! Can you replicate this for me?

Not really. This artwork has been drawn by another artist and another designer has used those design elements (illustrations, typography and layout) to create that particular artwork.  I have a large collection of commercially licensed illustrations and fonts that I am able to use to create a design inspired by the one you love however I am not able to copy another designers work.

If I am able to source the artwork, I am happy to purchase the artwork to use for your project. Additional charges will apply for this service.

I really really need this particular font used on my artwork? Do you have it?

If you know the name of the font, I can easily check my font library to see if I have already purchased it. #fontaddictionisreal
If I don’t have it, I’m happy to purchase the font to use for your project. Additional charges will apply for this service.
